Nearly three and half years after he was suspended following an alleged extra marital affair and charges of bigamy, the Gujarat government reinstated 2010 batch IAS officer Gaurav Dahiya.

Dahiya has been reinstated as an additional development commissioner. IAS A B Rathod who was holding the addiitonal charge of this department has been relieved.

Gaurav Dahiya was suspended in August 2019 by the Vijay Rupani government after a Delhi based woman alleged that the IAS had married her by keeping her in the dark about his first marriage. In a prolonged battle, Dahiya who was married and settled in Gandhinagar was scorned by his colleagues especially after reports of his other controversial relationships were also made public.

A five member committee had been constituted to probe into allegations levied on Dahiya., Dahiya also had registered a complaint against the Delhi based woman who had claimed that they had married in Tirupati. She later alleged that Dahiya started blackmailing her with their personal and intimate bedroom pictures after she insisted on registering the temple wedding. Dahiya had claimed that the woman was tryiing to extort money from him.

The panel had noted in its report that Dahiya has a licenced pistol and both his first and the allegedly second wife had claimed  that he had threatened them with the weapon. The inquiry committee also submitted statements of various persons who deposed stating that Dahiya had misused his position as the mission director of National Health Mission.

The committee members conducted a thorough examination and confirmed the validity of the allegations raised by the Delhi based woman. As a result, on the 14th of August 2019, Gaurav Dahiya was suspended by the Gujarat government.

Gaurav’s first wife had also lodged a separate case, accusing him of harassment. Dahiya reportedly fathered kids with both these women.
