As if freebies, cash and/or gifts were not enough, this story from Valsad will leave you thinking about how much planning goes into wooing voters. While the still-developing block of Valsad went to elections on Sunday, allegations were afoot about how some parties were bribing the electorate with “alcohol, sarees and chewing gum!”
A video from Asura village in Dharampur taluka, now viral on social media, has captured the distribution of the goodies in a bag. Strangely enough, after their handing over of the bags, the youth volunteers also engage the gathered crowd in a conversation about how voting is a right and cannot be “bought” by political parties.
A paradox indeed, however, no official complaint has been lodged. When contacted, local workers of contending parties chose not to comment saying that “they were not in the know.”
