Gujarat High Court on Monday asked the Insurance companies to disclose the amount of compensation that farmers under their crop insurance are liable to get against their loss. The HC said this during the hearing of a plea filed by the farmers from Surendranagar district, wherein they alleged that they were denied the compensation under the crop insurance scheme of the companies.
The High Court during the hearing said that farmers should not expect double compensation but the insurance companies should disclose the amount of compensation liable to farmers because they are legally entitled to compensation against crop loss.
Also, the farmers in their plea had alleged the insurance companies of manipulating the amount of due crop insurance compensation. In response to this, the HC asked the insurance companies to pay the rest of the compensation amount other than the amount paid by the government against the total crop loss.
However, the High Court has decided to hear the matter in a joint hearing of more than 40 Public Interest Litigations (PILs), which are related to crop insurance compensation, on February 3 in online mode.
