Organ donation in three districts in a single day in Gujarat SUB Organ donation service is changing the lives of many needy patients – Health Minister Hrishikesh Patel

Ahmedabad, Junagadh and Vadodara reported organ donation in a span of 24 hours.

Public health experts say that the State Organ Tissue and Transplant Organization (SOTTO) is doing its best for organ retrieval and transplant in various cities. These three instances of donation in a single day demonstrate that awareness about organ donation is motivating the public to volunteer and donate organs.

Health Minister Hrishikesh Patel praised the efforts of Gujarat’s doctors for the three organ donations made in a single day in the state. He also said that as a result of the organ donation-related services rendered by the state government, the lives of needy patients are changing. Over the years, patients who have suffered from deformities have had success with organ transplants.

On Wednesday, the first organ donation was made by the next of kin of Jasuji Thakur, a 50 year- old road accident victim who was declared brain dead during treatment at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. The heart has been sent for transplant to a patient admitted to Sims Hospital, Ahmedabad with the help of Green Corridor.

In the second case, Maganbhai Gajera, 66, of Ravni village in Vanthali taluka of Junagadh, was admitted to a private hospital for treatment due to a brain stroke. He was declared brain dead during treatment and his family showed readiness for donating his organs. His kidneys and liver were donated and were brought from Keshod to Ahmedabad Civil Medicity Kidney Institute by air ambulance for transplant.

Similarly, Vrinda, a 17-year-old girl from Vadodara, was admitted to a private hospital for treatment due to hypoxia.  Even after intensive treatment, she failed to recover and was declared brain dead. Vrinda’s father Kamleshbhai Patel decided to donate his daughter’s organs.

Donations of heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, pancreas, and both corneas were received by the hospital during the retrieval. The heart was sent to a hospital in Mumbai through the Green Corridor while the lungs were sent to a hospital in Chennai for transplant.
