Gujarat: Ahmedabad’s Kaneti Village To Get An All Women Panchayat

A population of about 1,800 people of which 1,450 are eligible for voting in the Kaneti village of Ahmedabad will break stereotypes on Monday when all women panchayat will take over.

The village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad – has a population of about 1,800 of which 1,450 are eligible for voting.

Madhiben Thakor, the sarpanch, Nainaba Vaghela, deputy sarpanch and other nine women will be taking oath late on Monday. This village has been a samras village for the past 30 years but this will be the first time that it would be an all-women panchayat committee. The villagers expect this committee to bring developmental changes in Kaneti, to be included as a part of Ahmedabad soon. 

Madhiben Thakor is all set to develop her village for the sake of her villagers at a fast pace and is ensuring full support from the villagers as well. Naina Vaghela, deputy sarpanch, is also the chairperson of Sanand Taluka Vividh Co-operative Society and as per her, the co-operative members will also benefit from these steps.
