Gujarat Logs Over 11,000 Covid-19 Cases, Five Deaths In Last 24 Hours

Gujarat recorded 11,176 cases – a rise of 12% from yesterday – and five deaths in the last 24 hours. With today’s update, state’s active cases tally went up to 50,612 and the number fatalities since the start of the pandemic reached 10,142. The five people who succumbed to the infection were from Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, and Valsad. Besides five deaths, as many as 64 patients are on ventilator support. No Omicron infections were logged for third consecutive day.

The state has added over 45,154 cases in just seven days; however, the doubling pace of infections has come down as what was seen a week back.

While Ahmedabad Corporation remained the biggest contributor with 3,673 cases, it was a decline of 5% compared to tally on Wednesday. Other major contributors include Surat (2,690), Vadodara (950), Rajkot (440), Valsad (337), and Gandhinagar (319). Ahmedabad rural recorded 81 cases.

Scenario Across India

India added 2,47,417 new coronavirus infections, the highest single-day rise in the ongoing wave, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,63,17,927, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated today.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 13% — up from 11.5% yesterday — while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 10.80%.

The country also reported 380 new deaths, taking the total fatalities in India to 485,035, while active cases rose to 11,17,531.

The active cases comprise 3.08 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate decreased to 95.59%, the ministry said.
