Rojid village of Barwala in Botad of dry state Gujarat has caused an uproar as more than 26 people have died and others are in critical condition due to consumption of poisoned liquor.
Some of the patients have been admitted to Bhavnagar Government Hospital and some in Botad for treatment in critical condition. Following this incident, the police immediately arrested the liquor maker and the liquor seller.
However, following this entire incident, a SIT has been formed under the chairmanship of DySP, which will investigate and submit a report to the government. FSL has also been given samples of people affected by alcohol and also of those who lost their lives, so that the exact cause of death can be officially revealed.
Chemical was sent from Ahmedabad
In the case, a major revelation is being made during the police investigation. It has been revealed that ethanol, the chemical used to make Desi Liquor, was sent from Ahmedabad. While making the liquor, ethanol was used in higher proportions which turned the liquor into poison for many.
Deaths till now:
Along with this, the police have detained a total of five accused so far, who used to mix chemicals in alcohol and sell them. Liquor sellers and liquor makers both have been arrested. According to the information received from sources, 18 people had died till 10 pm on Monday night and the toll reached to a total of 26 deaths till Tuesday morning.
As many as 22 victims of Rojid’s incident were admitted to Bhavnagar Civil Hospital through an ambulance. Out of these 22, three victims are in critical condition and are kept on ventilator. A female patient is also under treatment. Around five people of Rojid village have died after drinking poisonous liquor.
Among the deceased victims, five people were from Rojid village of Botad itself, two people were from Chadarwa village, two in Devgana village, nine in Dhanduka, two in Aniyali village, three people in Akroo village and two died in Uchdi village, so far.
2009 Ahmedabad Incident:
This case has reminded of one such incident that took place in Ahmedabad in the year 2009, which claimed the lives of over 100 people. A total of 123 people died and 200 lost their eyes in Bapunagar, Odhav and Kankaria due to chemical-laced country liquor sent in the city. This was one of the biggest scandal of Ahmedabad.
