Gujarat Polls: No Ticket For Cong MLA Who Fought Liquor Mafia

| Updated: November 17, 2022 18:42

The Ahmedabad district’s neighboring villages of Rojid were shaken on July 26 when a string of fatalities from drinking adulterated alcohol started to occur. 42 people lost their lives in this scandal, while 217 others were still treated at the Bhavnagar hospital in Ahmedabad. Many people experience vision loss. Rajesh Gohil, a Dhandhuka MLA who fought against bootleggers, was denied a ticket by Congress.

In 2017, Rajesh Gohil from Dhandhuka Vidhansabha won this seat by defeating KanuBhai Dabhi, the incumbent BJP candidate and Gohil’s brother-in-law, by 5920 votes. While the Congress last won Dhadhuka in 1985. On this Koli-dominated seat, the Congress has put Youth Congress leader Harpal Singh Chudasama on the ballot.

Rajesh Gohil told Vibes of India that “I have been punished for my honesty. Apart from my constituency, I also fought against the liquor mafia in the neighboring area. Even before the Latha incident, I kept raising the issue of illegal liquor in the district compilation meeting. After the Rojid incident, the Congress leadership made my letter the basis. Rajesh had also received death threats. Gujarat Congress chief Jagdish Thakor had raised the issue before the governor as well.

Talbada Koli, Chuwadia Koli, Muslim, Dalit, Kardia Rajput, Maldhari, and Darbar are the caste groups that are represented on this seat in Surendranagar during the Lok Sabha elections on a caste basis. Talbada Koli, Chuwadia Koli, Muslim, Dalit, and Darbar are each represented by 32,000 voters. The Chudasma Darbar of the INC is Harpal Singh.

Gohil claims that while I haven’t betrayed the party, the party has. I was told up until two days ago that MLAs wouldn’t be denied tickets, but they didn’t even get in touch with me after before getting their tickets revoked, according to Gohil. I believe the party no longer requires my presence. I should lose to the bootleggers I fought against within my own gathering.

Indicating rebellion, Rajesh Gohil said, “I will continue my fight.” Even before I was declared the candidate, the BJP had contacted me to offer me a ticket; however, I declined. However, when the party no longer needs me, I will also have to consider my options.
