After the onset of monsoon in Kerala on May 29 and the scorching months of April and May this summer, citizens in Gujarat are awaiting the southwest monsoon to knock on the state’s doors.
However, Gujarat on Tuesday started witnessing the pre-monsoon activities a day before the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted its beginning. Lathi, Savarkundla and Rajula in Amreli and Jesar, Gariyadhar and Vallabhipur in Bhavnagar experienced mild showers on Tuesday.
Also, the Navarangpura and Paldi regions of Ahmedabad received a very light rain shower in the evening and the rest of the city felt a respite from the day’s scorching heat as the citizens experienced a breezy and cloudy atmosphere with gusty winds in some parts.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad, Amreli, Banaskantha, Bhavnagar, Botad, Rajkot, and Surendranagar are expected to receive light to moderate rain with light thunderstorms on Wednesday. Apart from this, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Navsari, Surat and Valsad are expected to receive light thunderstorms along with lightning and wind blowing at the speed of 30-40 kmph for the coming four days. Meanwhile, other than these regions, the rest of the parts of Gujarat are expected to continue witnessing dry and hot weather.
Gujarat generally expects the onset of the southwest monsoon by June 15 and this year there is no probability of monsoon onset for at least the next three to four days, informed IMD, Gujarat Director Manorama Mohanty on Tuesday.
Talking about temperatures across Gujarat on Tuesday, Ahmedabad once again was reported to be the hottest place in the state with a maximum of 42 Degrees Celsius temperature. Ahmedabad was followed by Gandhinagar with 41.6 Degrees Celsius maximum temperature, Surendranagar with 40.7, Deesa with 40.6 Degrees Celsius, Vadodara with 40.2 Degrees Celsius and Amreli with a maximum temperature of 42 Degrees Celsius.
