In NITI Aayog’s India Innovation Index 2021, Karnataka has achieved Rank 1 for the third time in a row. While PM Modi’s home state Gujarat stands at number 14. Gujarat had an overall score of 12.41 after Madhya Pradesh with 12.74. Meanwhile, Karnataka topped with 18.01.
CN Ashwath Narayan, Minister of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood of Karnataka, tweeted, “Karnataka does it again! The State has topped in the NITI Aayog’s India Innovation Index 2021 thanks to leadership and guidance of PM Narendra Modi, and (former chief minister) BS Yedyiurappa avaru. Our government, led by chief minister Basavaraj Bommai avaru, is thankful to the industry for its support.”
Based on their capacity for innovation, NITI Aayog ranked the states and union territories in the India Innovation Index. Both editions were published: the first in October 2019 and the second in January 2021.
Telangana, Haryana, and Maharashtra placed second through fourth in the list of top states in the most recent edition. Manipur won the North East and the Hill States. Moreover, Chandigarh took first place in Union Territory and the City States.
According to the research, Karnataka’s high ranking was due to its exceptional success in luring FDI, foreign direct investment, and significant venture capital deals.
“Innovation is the key to sustainable and inclusive growth. It can help us solve the biggest challenges of our times: bringing millions out of poverty, generating livelihood opportunities, and paving the way for an Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” NITI Aayog member Dr VK Saraswat, present at the launch of the report, said.
