Gujarat Records 13 Covid Deaths, 870 Cases

Gujarat on Thursday recorded 870 new Covid-19 cases and 13 fresh deaths, taking the overall tally to 12,19,082 and the toll to 10,864, the state health department said in a release.

State’s recovery rate stands at 98%, the state health ministry revealed.

On Wednesday, the state reported less than 1,000 new Covid cases at 884 for the first time in nearly a month-and-a-half and 13 deaths. Also, 2,221 patients, more than thrice the new cases, were discharged during the day, raising the tally of recoveries to 12,00,204, it said. On Tuesday, the tally of active cases dropped for the first time after January 5 below the 10,000-mark to 9,378. With today’s update, the active cases stand at 8,014. Of these active cases, 53 are on ventilator support, said the state health department in the release.

District-wise, Ahmedabad reported the highest number of 252 new Covid cases, Vadodara logged 139 cases, Banaskantha had 73 cases, Surat recorded 28, and Gandhinagar recorded 27 infections. In terms of death, Vadodara recorded the highest at four, followed by three in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar each. Dahod and Rajkot had one deaths each. With 1.82 lakh more people getting vaccinated against Covid-19 on Thursday, the number of doses administered so far in Gujarat rose to 10.17 crore, the release said.

Meanwhile, in the wake of declining Covid cases, the state government announced opening of all schools and colleges for physical learning from February 21.

Scenario Across India

India reported 30,757 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the active cases in the country to 3,32,918. The daily positivity rate in India has been recorded at 2.6% and the weekly positivity rate at 3.04%, the union health ministry stated.

A total of 75.55 crore tests have been conducted so far in India, with 11,79,705 tests held on Thursday.

A total of 67,538 patients have recovered yesterday and the cumulative tally of recovered patients since the beginning of the pandemic is now at 4,19,10,984. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98%.
