The state recorded 13 new cases of Omicron variant in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s total tally to 43. Vadodara city recorded the maximum cases (7), followed by Kheda (3), Ahmedabad city (2) and Anand (1). The total active tally of the Omicron variant stands at 35. Besides the one male (28) from Kheda, all others had travel history, the office of state health minister Rushikesh Patel confirmed.
The one new patient from Vadodara city had travelled from Tanzania (male, 43), two had travelled to the city from Zambia (male, 43 and female, 47), while one had travelled from U.A.E (male, 49). The other three Omicron positive patients were detected following contact tracing of the aforementioned people. In Ahmedabad, the two patients – both male and aged 37 and 42 respectively, had travelled from Nigeria and U.A.E respectively. It is yet to be ascertained whether the new Omicron-positive patients were fully vaccinated or not, the office of the health minister said.
Meanwhile, the state recorded 98 Covid-19 positive cases and 3 deaths in the last 24 hours. The deaths were recorded in Ahmedabad city, Jamnagar city and Porbandar. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s medical health official confirmed to Vibes of India that the one death in the city was not of anyone infected with the Omicron variant.
With the new update, the total active coronavirus cases in the city are 594, while eight patients are on ventilator support. The cumulative death rate since the start of the pandemic is 10,111, as per the state health department data.
India reported 6,650 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. With this, the country’s caseload reached 3,47,72,626. India’s active caseload currently stands at 77,516.
The country also reported 374 new Covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the total death count to 4,79,133. The country until Thursday evening had 358 cases of the Omicron variant.
