Gujarat Records Marginal Drop In Daily Covid Cases; Ahmedabad Fares Better With 24% Decline

Marginal drop of 2% in daily Covid cases was recorded in Gujarat in the last 24 hours, with the state adding 6,097 fresh infections. With today’s update, the state’s active cases tally reached 32,469. Gujarat also recorded two deaths – one in Surat and one in Rajkot, and 26 Omicron infections on the last 24 hours. The number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic has reached 10,130, while the total tally of Omicron infections has reached 264.

Experts claim that the number of deaths is likely to be three to four times higher than what is being projected by the state government.

Besides two deaths, as many as 29 patients are on ventilator support.
While Ahmedabad remained the biggest contributor with 1,893 cases, it was a decline of 24% from yesterday’s 2,487 infections. Other major contributors include Surat (1,778), Vadodara (410), Valsad (259), Rajkot (191), and Gandhinagar (131). Ahmedabad rural recorded 30 cases.

On Omicron front, Vadodara surpassed Ahmedabad as the major contributor with 9 cases. Surat and Ahmedabad had five cases each, while Anand had four cases. Kutch and Rajkot had two cases each, whereas Gandhinagar recorded one case.

The total number of Omicron cases in Gujarat since the variant entered the state stands at 264, as against 223 discharges. The active Omicron tally in the state is 41.
