The State GST department on Monday raided nine places in connection with N.R. Group of Surat. NR Group of Surat is involved in the business of cosmetics, imitation jewellery, makeup and ladies footwear in Chauta Bazaar of Surat.
The State GST Department got the information based on Market intelligence and system-based analysis and raided NR Beauty World, NR Jewellers, NR Fit Ins, and other five places in connection with the tax evasion.
A preliminary inquiry by the department revealed that companies were paying minimal taxes and a large-scale tax was avoided by them. Companies did not mention their imports from other countries and states in their filings.
State GST department has recovered documents and stock purchased without legitimate bills from the raids.

Important to note here is that imitation jewellery and beauty products attract 18 percent GST whereas footwear and ladies purses attract 12 percent GST.
