| Updated: December 23, 2022 15:35

A positive Covid-19 test was detected in Rajkot, Gujarat, by a Taiwanese woman who visited the city with her fiance, a Rajkot native who works in Australia. After returning to his home in Bhavnagar with his 2-year-old daughter, a second city resident who also works in China tested positive for Covid-19.

Local authorities have submitted samples of the afflicted people to a virology lab in Gandhinagar for genetic sequencing, said reports.

According to the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC), the 27-year-old Taiwanese woman and her fiance live and work in Australia, and they arrived at the Ahmedabad airport on December 18 before travelling by road to Rajkot to get married.

However, the woman only had minor symptoms, and her samples were taken on December 20. She tested positive for the virus the next day. She has been kept in home isolation while her health is being monitored on a regular basis.

However, all of the other family members’ samples were negative. After receiving three doses of the AstraZeneca vaccination, the woman is said to be in stable condition. The RMC has also begun rigorous testing in accordance with the Union Health Ministry’s directives. It has prompted private doctors to closely monitor symptomatic patients and have them tested as soon as possible.

It has directed all urban health centres to collect samples from symptomatic patients.

In another case, a Bhavnagar man returned from China with his wife and 2-year-old child on December 20 after testing positive for Covid-19.

According to Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation, the man was married to a foreign national and had worked in China for a long time. The family went to Bhavnagar for a social gathering. The father and daughter are being treated in their own home.
