Harsh Sanghavi, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Culture, this morning confirmed that Gujarat would be hosting National Games 2022 from September 27 to October 10. He said, “Moment of pride to announce that Gujarat is ready to host the prestigious 36th National Games 2022 from 27 Sept. to 10 Oct 2022.
Our state will set a platform for sportspersons to showcase their talent, break records & create new illustrious records.”
Furthermore, Sanghvi also said, that the National Games will comprise of more than 34 sporting events of different categories. These events will be held in across the state covering 6 cities including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar.
This is a pleasant announcement for Gujarat as there had been quite a debate over which state could host these games this year. Although candidates were many, no real winner had come up. It was believed that Goa would be the one to do this, but the state had backed out, citing its inability to provide the needed infrastructure in time.
The government of Gujarat had written to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) of its willingness to host the games. The IOA has now taken a decision in favour of the state and accepted the proposal.
