Gunman Pictured After Pahalgam Terror Strike Leaves 28 dead

| Updated: April 23, 2025 15:40

One of the attackers linked to the dastardly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 28 innocent lives was captured on camera. Wearing a grey kurta-pajama, he was seen unabashedly wielding an AK-47, with his back to the camera.

This picture now serves as a dark symbol of the blatant assault that targeted unarmed civilians who were merely enjoying a peaceful day out.

Security agencies are now under severe pressure to bring the killers to justice and restore a sense of safety in a region now gripped by fear and anger.

Lives were cut short when heavily armed militants opened fire on a group of tourists at the picturesque Baisaran meadow in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, around 2:30 PM on Tuesday. The bloodbath unfolded in what is often referred to as ‘mini Switzerland’, turning a serene landscape into a scene of unimaginable horror.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the rare and cold-blooded attack on tourists—a disturbing escalation in a region already scarred by decades of conflict.

Eyewitness accounts speak of chaos and carnage. As bullets tore through the air, terrified tourists scattered across the open meadow with nowhere to hide. A shaken witness recounted that there had been no place to run or any cover to shield themselves from the gunfire. Harrowing visuals from the scene showed lifeless bodies sprawled across the grass, as cries for help echoed through the meadow and locals rushed in a desperate attempt to aid the injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Saudi Arabia at the time of the attack, immediately curtailed his trip and returned to Delhi. In a strongly worded statement, he condemned the massacre and vowed that the perpetrators “will not be spared.”

Home Minister Amit Shah convened an emergency high-level security meeting and is expected to visit Pahalgam for an on-ground review of the situation. Security forces, meanwhile, have launched a massive manhunt, combing the area and using surveillance to track down those responsible.
