| Updated: August 15, 2022 19:39

India celebrated 75 years of independence today. The day dawned with many leaders and business tycoons from across the world wishing Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion. Many also shared congratulatory messages for the country. In keeping with the central government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, households across the country and even Indians living outside the country hoisted the Tricolour in their homes and institutions.

“As India celebrates its 75th Independence Day, I congratulate @narendramodi for prioritizing healthcare and digital transformation while spearheading India’s development. India’s progress in these sectors is inspiring and we are fortunate to partner in this journey. #Amrit Mahotsav,” Microsoft co-founder and American philanthropist Bill Gates tweeted.

The American President, Joe Biden, in his message, invoked Mahatma Gandhi and said the US and India were “indispensable partners”. “The vibrant Indian-American community in the United States has made us a more innovative, inclusive, and stronger Nation,” Biden said in a statement.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made a reference to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and hailed the “remarkable” achievements made by India while also recalling the “fond memories” he has while travelling the nation.

Industrialist Anand Mahindra shared a video clip on his social media where refugees from different countries living in India can be seen singing a rendition of the Indian national anthem with Grammy Award-winning composer Ricky Kej. In the tweet, Mahindra captioned the video, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav”.

Mahindra had also shared another photo earlier celebrating the indomitable spirit of the country. An elderly couple can be seen – one atop a barrel – putting in a joint effort to hoist the Tricolour.

RPG Enterprises chairman Harsh Goenka also shared the video of the refugees. Alongside, he also shared a short video that showed how the group celebrated India’s Independence Day. In a message accompanying yet another video, Goenka said, “We may have different backgrounds, but we believe in the same dream that says this is a country where anything’s possible. No matter who you are, where you come from, what your religion is!”

There was also another video of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, with his wife Nita Ambani and grandson Prithvi Ambani celebrating the day. Industrialist Gautam Adani, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and others also commemorated the day and shared congratulatory messages.
