Twenty-three-year old actress Pratibha Ranta has become the Internet’s darling after her performances in Kiran Rao’s much-appreciated film ‘Laapataa Ladies’ and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series ‘Heeramandi’.
For young Pratibha, the month of May 2024 has brought a great deal of recognition with both ‘Laapataa Ladies’ and ‘Heeramandi’ streaming on Netflix.
Her understated acting and casual charm in ‘Laapataa Ladies’ has won her many fans. Pratibha left a mark with her simplicity and screen presence in the film. In ‘Heeramandi’ she is thought to have held her own remarkably well among experienced co-actors.
Acting debut
Born in 2000 in Shimla, Pratibha Ranta made her acting debut in the 2020 TV show ‘Qurbaan Hua’ opposite Karan Jotwani. The show had Pratibha in the lead role but was cancelled in September 2021 due to low ratings. The actress was then seen in ‘Aadha Ishq’, another TV show.
In March this year, Pratibha appeared in her first film – ‘Laapataa Ladies’, with fellow actors Sparsh Srivastava and Nitanshi Goel. Her performance in the film won her applause from both critics as well as audiences. ‘Laapataa Ladies’ was released on OTT in May.
In ‘Heeramandi’, Pratibha plays Shama, the ambitious daughter of Sanjeeda Sheikh’s character Waheeda. Despite the presence of Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Aditi Rao Hydari, Pratibha has managed to leave a mark in the show. Online, many have commented that she was more impressive than Sharmin Segal, one of the show’s lead stars.
