The Central Government has said that Operation Sindoor was still on and that 100 terriorists were killed in air strikes on Pakistani terror camps.
Past midnight on Tuesday, the Indian Armed Forces had struck nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the Operation Sindoor was still on. Later on after the all-party meeting, he told reporters on Thursday that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed leaders that this was an ongoing operation and hence a technical briefing can’t be given. Sources said Singh also informed the participants that 100 terrorists were killed in the strikes.
On Thursday, a series of loud explosions were heard in Pakistan’s Lahore and some other cities, local media and agencies. However, the Indian government has not commented on the incident.
Rijiju also said that leaders cutting across party lines unanimously congratulated the armed forces on the success of Operation Sindoor and assured their full support to the government.
While informing the participants that 100 terrorists were killed, Singh also said that they would not like to escalate the matter. However, he is reported to have said that if Pakistan does so, India will not back down either.
According to sources, Singh spoke for five minutes and other leaders were given about four to five minutes.
The opposition was in unison all praise for the Armed Forces.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the all party meeting. He, however, also said that this was not the time to criticise anyone but stand united. Questions can be asked later on, he told reporters after the meet.
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also extended full support to the government. “We are here together and, from the beginning, we have been with the government,” sources quoted Gandhi having said at the meeting.
The issue of the PM’s absence was also raised by the Aam Aadmi Party and the Samajwadi Party.
Even though PM Modi did not attend the meeting, he sent a message to the opposition: “Every Indian citizen needs to stand united”.
In response to Operation Sindoor, the Pakistani army opened artillery fire along the Line of Control in the Poonch-Rajouri area, killing 15 civilians.
