Hypocritic, Divisive And Illiberal Policies Damaging The Nation: Sonia Gandhi

| Updated: April 16, 2022 16:42

Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday tears into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP led government and the Rashtriyaswayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) for nurturing hatred, bigotry and intolerance in the country. She said that now we need policies that can sustain high economic growth, which in turn can create wealth to be redistributed among people to raise their living standards and ensure adequate employment for our youth.

In the article titled “A virus rages among us”, Congress Chief Sonia wrote for a news publication that she attacked the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the RSS for instigating communal violence in the country.

“The rising chorus of hatred, the unconcealed instigation of aggression and even crimes against minorities are a far departure from the accommodating, syncretic traditions in our society. Shared celebrations of festivals, good neighbourly relationships between communities of different faiths, the pervasive intermingling of faith and belief in the arts, cinema and everyday life, of which there are examples by the thousands, are proud and durable characteristics of our society through the ages. To undermine this for narrow political gain is to undermine the composite and syncretic foundations of Indian society and nationhood”, she wrote.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also slammed the Modi government stating that Indians are paying price for the hate fueled by the BJP-RSS duo. “India’s true culture is that of shared celebrations, community, and cohesive living. Let’s pledge to preserve this,” he tweeted.

Sonia criticises the PM that his speeches acknowledge India’s multiple diversities. But in these years of his governance, the rich diversities that have defined and enriched our society for centuries are being manipulated to divide us and, worse, to harden faultlines and make them more firmly entrenched.

“The worsening environment of social illiberalism and bigotry, the spread of hatred and divisiveness, shakes the very foundations of economic growth. It is no surprise that some bold corporate executives have been speaking out against what is being orchestrated in Karnataka, amongst the most entrepreneurially dynamic of our states”, she highlighted.

Sonia declared that the Modi government is just Hypocritic, they had started the practice of celebrating November 26 as Constitution Day to mark the adoption of our Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949. They are also now systematically degrading and destroying every constitutional Institution.

Earlier today, Sonia Gandhi enrolled herself as a digital member of the party on the last day of the digital membership drive. In the drive which began on November 1, 2021, Rahul Gandhi was one of the first Congress leaders to be enrolled as a digital member.

She concluded her statements by shedding light on the 35th verse of Tagore’s Gitanjali, “Where the mind is without fear…”, stating that these lines are more relevant and it has heightened resonance today.
