I-League: TRAU Defeats Rajasthan United By 2-1

| Updated: January 29, 2023 16:11

Rajasthan United suffered a 2-1 loss in the I-League on Saturday at the Ambedkar Stadium thanks to Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU).

TRAU scored two goals in the 14th and 40th minutes from Salam Johnson Singh and Komron Tursunov, while Rajasthan United responded with Shaiborlang Kharpan (19th).

In the first ten minutes of the game, Rajasthan United appeared to be in complete control as one of many Lalremsanga crosses discovered Pintu Mahata unmarked inside the TRAU box.

To block Mahata’s header, Haokip dove to his right. The only forward, Shaiborlang Kharpan, had two chances to score during the following two minutes but failed to do so.

Salam Johnson Singh’s frightening speed from the right and Brazilian Fernandinho’s inventiveness from the left combined four minutes later to give TRAU the lead against the odds. Johnson undetected entered the penalty area and volleyed Fernandinho’s cross into the goal with a picture-perfect volley.

However, the lead did not last very long. After waiting for Atai’s corner from the left flank for five minutes, neither Haokip nor any of his defenders attempted to intercept it. It got to Shaiborlang, who was positioned at the far post. To tie the score at 1, he chested it directly into the net.

In the 28th minute, a corner from the same flank by the Kyrgyz midfielder put TRAU in danger once more. The ball would have gone in if one of the defenders hadn’t cleared it off the goal line after Haokip failed to fist the ball away.

Three minutes later, Atai was responsible for wasting Lalremsanga’s accurate cross by misfiring from a close range. For Rajasthan United, so many attacks were ineffective. Large open spaces were left behind for TRAU to utilise on the counter in their place. In the 40th minute, Komron Tursunov successfully accomplished that by slipping between two players and receiving a gorgeous lob from behind.

Although the defenders made an effort to contain him, Tursunov maintained his composure to put his right-footer in and make the score 2-1. TRAU now has 22 points after 13 games, moving up to third place, while Rajasthan is stuck in seventh place with 18 points after 13 games.
