IAS Officer On Gujarat Poll Duty Shunted For Posting Picture On Insta

| Updated: November 18, 2022 19:12

The Election Commission has removed an Uttar Pradesh Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer as a general observer for the Gujarat assembly elections for engaging in a ‘publicity stunt’ by posting pictures of his assignment on Instagram.

The EC stated in a strongly worded letter to Gujarat’s chief electoral officer on Friday that the 2011 batch officer used the social media platform Instagram to share his posting as a general observer and used his official position as a “publicity stunt.”

The poll panel also shared pictures uploaded by the officer on the social media platform with the CEO.

According to the EC communication, the poll panel took a “very serious view” of the matter and immediately relieved the officer of his duties as a general observer.

The officer was also ordered to immediately leave the constituency for which he was assigned and report to his nodal officer in the parent cadre.

According to the sources, the letter stated that all government facilities provided to him to facilitate the discharge of his observer duties be withdrawn.

According to them, another IAS officer has taken over responsibility for the assembly seats that the other officer was handling.
