IIFA 2025: Laapataa Ladies and Kill Dominate, Kartik Aaryan Wins Big

The 25th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) concluded with an electrifying performance by Shah Rukh Khan in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Sunday. The two-day event commenced on March 8, celebrating the achievements of the Indian film industry.

Kartik Aaryan received the Best Actor award for his performance in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, while Nitanshi Goel won Best Actress for her role in Laapataa Ladies

Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, India’s official Oscar entry, was named Best Picture. The film also secured multiple honours, including Best Director for Kiran Rao, Best Supporting Actor for Ravi Kishan, Best Supporting Actress for Pratibha Ranta, Best Music Director for Ram Sampath, and Best Story (Original) for Biplab Goswami.

Kill also stood out, earning accolades such as Best Performance in a Negative Role for Raghav Juyal, Best Cinematography for Rafey Mahmood, Best Sound Mixing for Subash Sahoo, Boloy Kumar Doloi, and Rahul Karpe, and Best Sound Design for Subash Sahoo. Lakshya received the Best Debut (Male) award for Kill.

Other winners included Janki Bodiwala for Best Supporting Actress in Shaitaan, Kunal Kemmu for Best Directorial Debut with Madgaon Express, and Pratibha Ranta for Best Debut (Female) for Laapataa Ladies

Jubin Nautiyal and Shreya Ghoshal were named Best Playback Singers (Male and Female, respectively). Ram Sampath won Best Music Director for Laapataa Ladies, while Prashant Pandey was recognised for Best Lyrics for “Sajni” from the same film. 

Best Story (Adapted) was awarded to Sriram Raghavan, Arijit Biswas, Pooja Ladha Surti, and Anukriti Pandey for Merry Christmas.

Special Effects (Visual) were acknowledged with an award to Red Chillies VFX for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Jabeen Merchant won Best Editing for Laapataa Ladies, and Bosco-Caesar received Best Choreography for “Tauba Tauba” from Bad Newz

Best Dialogues went to Arjun Dhawan, Aditya Dhar, Aditya Suhas Jambhale, and Monal Thaakar for Article 370, and Best Screenplay was awarded to Sneha Desa for Laapataa Ladies.

The ceremony, known for its grandeur, featured performances from Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, and Kriti Sanon. Kareena Kapoor paid tribute to her grandfather, legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor. 

The digital awards were announced on March 8, followed by the main event honouring Bollywood’s prominent figures on March 9.

Shah Rukh Khan also presented awards to the founders of IIFA as the organisation celebrated its 25th anniversary. 

The IIFA Awards, established in 2000, recognise excellence in the Indian Hindi film industry, with winners determined through online voting. The Academy reserves the right to deem any submission ineligible.

Rakesh Roshan received the award for Outstanding Achievement in Indian Cinema, marking another highlight of the event.
