Among these distinguished individuals, Gurdeep Singh stands out as a shining example. A graduate of IIM Ahmedabad, he currently holds the esteemed positions of Chairman and Managing Director at NTPC Limited, a prominent central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) operating under the purview of the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
Gurdeep Singh has been at the helm of NTPC since 2016, spearheading the company’s operations in the crucial field of electricity generation and other related activities. The headquarters of this PSU are strategically located in Delhi. Notably, as of September 1, NTPC boasts a formidable market capitalization of Rs 2,24,000 crore. On the latest trading day, Friday, the company’s share price on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed at Rs 231.35.
Prior to assuming his leadership role at NTPC, Gurdeep Singh served as the Managing Director of Gujarat State Electricity Company Limited, accumulating over three decades of invaluable experience within the power sector. His journey commenced in 1987 when he embarked on his career as an Engineer Trainee at NTPC. Over the years, Singh climbed the ranks across various sectors, spanning both the public and private domains, including multinational corporations.
Gurdeep Singh holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, which he earned at the esteemed National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra. To further enhance his knowledge and leadership capabilities, he completed the Management Education Program at IIM Ahmedabad. Additionally, Singh has honed his management and leadership acumen through interactions with renowned global institutions, including Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford (UK), Harvard Kennedy School (USA), Darden School of Management at the University of Virginia (USA), Singapore Civil Services College (Singapore), and the Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad, India.
