IMA-AMA in Gujarat to Go On a Strike

| Updated: July 21, 2022 13:59

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation recently passed an order to shift city hospitals’ ICUs to the ground floor. In order to support the protest against the above decision, a statewide Bandh on Friday was called by biomedical association

The High court issued orders such as shifting the ICUs to the ground floor and removing glass facades. A verbal order was given to the state to implement such changes.

The civic authorities of Ahmedabad have asked the hospitals to implement the necessary modifications in a week’s time, revealed a note by the Gujarat state branch of the Indian Medical Association. (IMA)

State president Dr Paresh Majmudar said that though they support any action to prevent fires in hospitals, they were not in accordance to following unilateral directives from the state government.

Dr Mehul Shah, who is the secretary of IMA-GSB, said that decisions on such guidelines should be taken by a technical committee from all required and relevant departments. He is of the view that the change in ICU locations can cause health hazards. It is expected that on Friday, July 22, all 30,000 members in Gujarat will go on a strike to protest against the new decision.
