In Next Three Years Gujarat Will Have More Footballers Than Cricketers: Parimal Nathwani

Gujarat State Football Association (GSFA) announced the first ever GSFA Club Championship tournament in three categories for football players in Gujarat from March 5, 2022. Total 106 matches will be played in 11 cities including: Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Bhavnagar, Ankleshwar, Vapi, Godhara, Dantiwada and Anand. The winner will represent Gujarat in AIFF i-League Qualifiers.

There are in all 33 teams involving 990 footballers: 17 senior, 9 junior and 7 sub junior category.  The matches will be played in two phases and will go on for three months. Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara and Bhavnagar will participate in three categories. Total 165 coaches and managers will be working for the matches. There will be 50 official match referees. 

Parimal Nathwani, President of GSFA said, “Like Europe and other football playing countries, we want to promote a club culture in Gujarat. Through such football matches we can identify real talent and groom them for the national championship.  We are working on creating more football grounds. In the next three years I’m sure Gujarat will have more football players than cricketers.” 

Vice presidents of GSFA Pradipsinh Vaghela, Arunsinh Rajput, Jiignesh Paatil and Hanif Ginwala also graced the event in Ahmedabad.
