Gulabo, India’s oldest sloth bear, passed away at the age of 40. She breathed her last at Van Vihar National Park and Zoo in Bhopal during the wee hours of Monday, January 10th 2022. According to an autopsy report, the cause of death is said to be the failure of internal organs due to old age. Gulabo was cremated by the staff of Van Vihar National Park and Zoo as per the norms.
“The female sloth bear died on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday after attaining the age of 40. Gulabo was one of the star attractions in the park. She was the oldest sloth bear in the country,” stated an official statement.
The female bear was rescued in 20026 from a Madaari (street performer), at that time she was 25 years old. Wild Life (SOS) Institute takes care of the health and upkeep of sloth bears at Van Vihar
