IndiGo Becomes Superhero: Transfers Heart From Vadodara To Mumbai

| Updated: June 13, 2022 18:20

IndiGo, a low-cost carrier, safely transported a live organ – a heart, from Vadodara to Mumbai in less than 2.5 hours last week, saving a life.

Team IndiGo successfully transported a live heart from a Vadodara operating theatre to Global Hospitals in Mumbai in two hours and twenty-two minutes, which is well-within the three-hour time limit set for a live organ transport.

The heart was harvested in a hospital in Vadodara by a team from Global Hospitals, Parel. Later that day, it was brought to a hospital in Mumbai for a triumphant transplant.

IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta complimented the team for the effectiveness and effort the team portrayed. It was an honor to have contributed to saving a life.

“We are honored to support the team of Global Hospitals in transferring the live organ (heart), on time to the recipient through safe and efficient logistics. Every life is precious, and IndiGo appreciates the opportunity to have contributed to saving one. I would also like to congratulate our airport staff at Vadodara and Mumbai and crew members who contributed to this effort,” said IndiGo’s CEO.

Global Hospitals, in their statement, was full of gratitude towards the IndiGo team for bearing such a responsibility and successfully saving a precious life.

Anoop Lawrence, Senior GM Operations, Global Hospitals said, “We would like to thank Manoj Dalvi, IndiGo’s Security Manager at Mumbai Airport, and Ramchandra Dwivedi, IndiGo’s Security Manager at Ahmedabad Airport, for their help in coordinating and assisting the Transplantation Team in all possible intercity transfers.

“We are extremely proud of our partnership with IndiGo for safe, fast, and smooth organ transfers to Mumbai. The IndiGo team always amazes us with their always preparedness and willingness to contact us at such short notice at any time of the day. We sincerely thank the team once again and look forward to their continued support forever!”

It is not the first time IndiGo has proved its quick operations. IndiGo also assisted in the shipment of a set of lungs from Pune to Hyderabad last month.
