Is Paytm FASTag Operational?

The Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL), responsible for toll collection on highways under the NHAI, has recommended highway users to procure FASTags from 32 authorized banks excluding Paytm Payments Bank for seamless travel.

Following the Reserve Bank of India’s directive on January 31, Paytm Payments Bank (PPBL) was instructed to halt deposits or top-ups in customer accounts, wallets, FASTags, and other instruments after February 29. Nonetheless, customers may receive interest, cashback, or refunds at any time.

“Effective February 29, 2024, no further deposits, credit transactions, or top-ups will be allowed in any customer accounts, prepaid instruments, wallets, FASTags, NCMC cards, etc., except for interest, cashback, or refunds, which may be credited anytime,” stated the RBI, clarifying that the regulatory action solely targets Paytm Payment Bank Ltd, and the Paytm App remains unaffected.

With numerous questions arising regarding the usage of Paytm FASTag by highway users, IHMCL has advised procuring FASTags from 32 authorized banks, excluding Paytm Payments Bank. Earlier, IHMCL, in a letter dated January 19, 2024, prohibited Paytm Payments Bank from issuing new FASTags. Nevertheless, existing Paytm FASTags with a balance as of February 29, 2024, can still be utilized until the balance is exhausted.
