Four Indian Army soldiers lost their lives during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. The operation was a joint effort by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, initiated based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the Desa forest area.
The encounter, which occurred around 9 pm, involved heavy gunfire. Initial reports indicate injuries to our brave soldiers. Additionally, at least five soldiers were critically wounded during the intense firefight.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh promptly engaged with Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi to assess the ground situation and monitor the ongoing operation in Doda.
This marks the second major attack in the Jammu region within a week. Previously, five soldiers were killed in action in Kathua. During the recent encounter, terrorists coordinated their strike on two trucks carrying approximately 12 troops. They employed grenades and armour-piercing bullets, demonstrating alarming tactics. An M4 assault rifle was also used in the attack.
The menace of terrorism that previously occurred in Poonch and Rajouri districts, which was once absent from Jammu, has now spread across the region. Over the past 32 months, 48 soldiers have lost their lives in action. Reports suggest that more than 60 foreign terrorists, trained in jungle warfare, may be operating solely in the Jammu region. Fear looms over all 10 districts of the province.
Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the Army to deploy its full anti-terrorist capabilities to eradicate terrorism in the Jammu region.
