Ahmedabad’s Kamala Nehru Zoological Garden, near Kankaria lake, will be home to two more tigresses from Aurangabad. Two 26-month-old tigresses, Pratibha and Ranjana, born in Aurangabad’s Siddharth Zoo are being transferred to the Kankaria zoo on February 19. The tigresses will be kept in quarantine for 15 days before being shifted to the zoo enclosures.
In return, the Siddharth Garden Zoo will get an emu, a jackal, an Indian crested porcupine and a hornbill.
The Aurangabad zoo decided to send the two tigresses to Ahmedabad as it had 10 tigers including three white ones. The Kankaria zoo, on the other hand, only has a white tigress and a Bengal tiger.
The zoo at Kankaria also has a policy that allows visitors to take care of the animals by paying for their food and maintenance. A similar decision on the tigresses will be taken shortly.
