Kerala Man Remains Grounded After Winning Rs. 25 Crore Lottery

| Updated: October 8, 2025 15:11

For most middle or lower income families, a lottery win can be nothing short of life-changing. It can help get rid of debts, secure the future, and bring long-awaited relief from financial worries.

That’s exactly what happened to a paint shop worker from Nettoor, Kochi, who recently hit the jackpot, winning the first prize of Rs 25 crore in the Onam Bumper lottery.

The winner, Sharath S. Nair, hails from Thuravoor in Alappuzha. He had purchased the lucky ticket — TH 577825 — from Nettoor and later submitted it at the State Bank of India branch in Thaikkattussery, Thuravoor.

Recalling the moment he learned about his win, Sharath told a section of the media that he was at work when the results came in. “I informed my brother first, and we double-checked the number together. We decided to confirm it at the bank before telling anyone else. My family is thrilled. I haven’t yet made plans for the prize money,” he said.

It was Sharath’s first time buying an Onam Bumper ticket, and he admitted he might try his luck again in the future.

Despite the life-changing amount, Sharath returned to work the next day, where he was greeted with applause and sweets from his colleagues. The management even organised a small ceremony to celebrate his win.

Showing his grounded nature, Sharath continued to take the public bus to work and personally visited the lottery shop where he had bought the ticket to thank the agent, Latheesh.

For now, Sharath says he plans to consult a financial expert before deciding how to use his winnings — and he has no immediate intention of leaving his job.
