Gujarati Hit ‘Laalo’ May Get Telugu Remake, Ram Charan To Play Lord Krishna?

| Updated: September 1, 2026 21:06

The success of Gujarati film Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahayate may soon take the story beyond Gujarat, with a Telugu adaptation reportedly being discussed. Producer Mahavir Jain is said to be in advanced talks to bring the film to Telugu audiences after the original achieved an impressive theatrical run.

Made on a modest budget of around ₹50 lakh, Laalo has reportedly earned more than ₹122 crore at the box office. The film also created a major milestone by becoming the first Gujarati film to cross the ₹100-crore mark.

Ram Charan May Play Lord Krishna

One of the most interesting possibilities surrounding the proposed Telugu version is the reported casting of Ram Charan as Lord Krishna.

The actor is reportedly being considered for a special cameo, rather than a full-length lead role. If the plan goes ahead, Krishna could be presented in a more contemporary and charismatic form instead of the traditional mythological style.

The proposed treatment is expected to retain the spiritual importance of Lord Krishna while placing the character within a modern setting.

However, Ram Charan’s involvement has not been officially confirmed.

Karthik Subbaraj Reportedly in Talks to Direct

Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj has also reportedly emerged as a possible choice to direct the Telugu adaptation.

Subbaraj is known for films including Jigarthanda, Petta and Mahaan. His possible involvement could bring a different cinematic style to the remake while preserving the emotional and spiritual elements that connected with audiences in the Gujarati version.

For now, discussions are still underway, and there is no final confirmation about the director or cast.

What Could Change in the Telugu Version?

The Telugu adaptation is expected to retain the emotional core and spiritual themes of Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahayate. At the same time, the makers are reportedly exploring changes that could help the story connect more naturally with Telugu-speaking audiences.

The remake could also receive a larger production scale and a more contemporary treatment compared with the Gujarati original.

The project is still at the discussion stage, and an official announcement is expected only after the creative team and casting are finalised.

If the reported plans materialise, the combination of Ram Charan’s possible Krishna cameo and Karthik Subbaraj’s reported involvement could make the Telugu version a notable adaptation of a recent regional success.

What Is Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahayate About?

Directed by Ankit Sakhiya, Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahayate is based on a screenplay written by Sakhiya along with Krushansh Vaja and Vicky Poornima.

The film stars Reeva Rachh, Shruhad Goswami, Karan Joshi, Mishty Kadecha, Anshu Joshi, Kinnal Nayak, Parul Rajyaguru and Jaydeep Timaniya.

The story follows a rickshaw driver who becomes trapped inside a farmhouse while confronting painful parts of his past. During this difficult experience, he begins having visions of Lord Krishna.

These experiences take him on a deeply personal journey involving faith, self-discovery and redemption.

With its reported ₹50-lakh budget and more than ₹122 crore in box-office earnings, the Gujarati film has already achieved a landmark success. Now, the possibility of a Telugu remake could give Laalo a new audience while taking its spiritual and emotional story into another regional film industry.
