An unfortunate accident, Friday morning, claimed the lives of seven soldiers and left 19 other critically injured in Ladakh. Their vehicle is reported to have skidded off a road and plunged into the Shyok river in the Turtuk sector in Ladakh. The incident took place around 9 am at a spot which is around 25 km from Thoise. The truck fell into the river from a height of around 50-60 feet, officials added.
In its release, the Indian Army briefed that the band of 26 soldiers left the Transit Camp in Partapur to a forward location in Sub Sector Hanif.
The troops were initially taken to a field hospital at Partapur, with the Army dispatching surgical teams from Leh. Seven of them were declared dead.In the evening, the Air Force moved the injured soldiers to the Army Command Hospital at Chandimandir in Haryana’s Panchkula district, said an Army statement.
President Kovind, PM Modi, Home Minster Amit Shah, Rahul Gandhi, Delhi CM Kejriwal and Trinamul supremo Mamata Banerjee, among others tweeted and expressed their grief over the incident.
