An 18-year old farm labourer was lacerated to his death by a lion in Gujarat’s Amreli districts, share forest officials on Sunday.
The whole escapade took place on Saturday. Son after, the man-eater Asiatic Lion of 8 years of age was caught on Sunday. It took extensive efforts to finally capture the wild beast, after which it was taken to a rescue centre, says the Deputy Conservator of Forests, Rajdeepsingh Jhala.
The farmer, Bhaydesh Payar who originates from Madhya Pradesh was returning to Nanidhari village in Tulsishyam range forest area from work when the beast savaged him leading to his ultimate death.
Locals who observed the incident, reported it to the forest department. Soon, a team came only to find the victim’s remains and set about to capture the lion. The animal was finally captured using a tranquiliser gun and was transported to a rescue centre at Dhari.
The Asiatic Lions are typically found in parts of Gujarat’s Saurashtra region, including the Gir Forest.
