Longevity’s Secrets Are Just A Book Away!

| Updated: May 25, 2022 12:36

Molecular biologist Nicklas Brendborg’s book “Jellyfish Age Backwards” explores everything the natural world and science have to offer on the mystery of aging. From the centuries-old Greenland shark and backwards-aging jellyfish to the man who fasted for a year and the woman who successfully edited her own DNA, this book follows the thread of every experiment, story, and myth in the search for immortality.

The book hits shelves on May 26. Priced at a whopping Rs 1,473 for the hardback and at Rs 850 for paperback editions, the title seems to be a hit from the word go.

Recent advances in medicine and technology have expanded our understanding of aging across the animal kingdom, and our own timeless quest for the fountain of youth. Yet, despite modern humans living longer today than ever before, the public’s understanding of what is possible is limited to our species—until now. Excerpts shared online seem to suggest the author’s empirical data on how superfoods, anti-oxidants, fish, red wine, detox diets and fads have little or nothing to do with living longer.

Bendborg’s research points at exercises, higher altitude lifestyles and donating blood at regular intervals. Among other aspects, these have been touched upon in detail, suggests the book preview.

Mixing cutting-edge research and stories from habitats all around the world, Brendborg explores extended life cycles in all its varieties. The book, published by Hodder & Stoughton General Division, is a 288 pages, research-backed thesis into understanding how the body works towards a longer life span. The author is still pursuing his PhD in molecular biology at the University of Copenhagen and is one of the most promising research talents in the field. He was a featured young scientist at the Novo Nordisk International Talent Program and was awarded the Novo Scholarship. In 2015, Brendborg published his first book,” Top Student.”

“Jellyfish Age Backwards” raises a toast to the immense power of nature, and what the immortal lives of many of Earth’s animals and plants can teach us about the secrets to longevity.
