Love, Lies, And Deadly Honeymoon: Indore Man Murdered In Meghalaya, Wife Arrested

| Updated: June 9, 2025 13:46

In a plot straight out of a crime thriller, a young bride from Indore allegedly lured her unsuspecting husband into a trap — not for romance, but for death.

The serene landscape of Sohra, a honeymoon destination, turned into the scene of a calculated killing.

Raja Raghuvanshi from Indore went missing with his wife Sonam on May 23. They had gone to Meghalaya for their honeymoon.

According to reports, a local tourist guide provided a haunting clue: the two had last been seen with three unidentified men. That account, vague and unsettling, was the first crack in what would soon be exposed as a sinister plot.

Ten days later, the silence was shattered. On June 2, Raja’s lifeless body was found dumped in a deep gorge. Nearby, a rented scooter — abandoned with its keys still intact — lay at Sohrarim, miles away from the Mawlakhiat parking lot. The investigation took a darker turn with every passing hour.

A breakthrough came unexpectedly. After remaining untraceable, Sonam contacted her family from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. The call raised alarms. Her relatives promptly alerted Indore Police, who in coordination with UP authorities, tracked her down. She was arrested within hours. Officials confirmed that a police team from Indore was already en route to take her into custody.

It was then that the real horror surfaced. Police officials disclosed that the 24-year-old Sonam had allegedly conspired with hired contract killers to murder her husband. The reason? An illicit affair. According to police sources who spoke to a section of the press, Sonam was in a relationship with a man named Raj Kushwaha. Together, they orchestrated the killing, hiring assassins from Madhya Pradesh to execute the plan during what was meant to be a honeymoon.

By the time the case broke open, four arrests had already been made — Sonam, along with three alleged assailants from Madhya Pradesh. Yet one suspect remains on the run. Meghalaya’s Director General of Police, Idashisha Nongrang, confirmed Sonam’s role in the grim conspiracy and stated that the investigation was far from over.

Even as the facts piled up, the case stirred controversy. Sonam’s father, Devi Singh, vocally denied the charges against his daughter. Speaking to reporters, he insisted she was innocent and accused Meghalaya Police of fabricating the entire story.

He claimed both families had consented to the marriage and announced his intention to meet Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to demand a CBI inquiry. According to him, if the investigation were truly impartial, every officer in the Meghalaya police station would be behind bars.

Amid the unfolding drama, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to social media to praise the rapid progress in the case. In a public post, he stated that within just seven days, the Meghalaya Police had arrested three contract killers and that the female suspect had surrendered.
