The Chennai administration has handed over the keys to late chief minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence to her niece – Deepa Jayakumar, on Friday evening.
Expressing her interest in residing at her aunt’s place, she said that this was the first time she was visiting in the absence of her aunt and the house looked barren and empty without her presence.
The decision was taken after a single-judge bench of the Madras High Court on November 24 set aside the order to acquire the residence of Jayalalithaa, and ordering that it would be handed over to the legal heirs.
The Madras High Court had ruled that the property should go them and asked the state government to take back the cash it had deposited in the court that was payable to the family.
