The National Consumers Day went by on December 24 but many would neither know its significance nor would they care much.
Consumer rights activists have reiterated that multiplexes, cinema halls, amusement or water parks could not force people to buy aerated drinks and snacks only from their shops.
There is no such rule or law. People visiting such places of entertainment have the right to carry water, aerated drinks or food items on their own.
But many are unaware of this and silently follow the rules made by the owners of such private places.
Significantly, Central Consumers Protection Authority (CCPA) has been set up under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 and under the District, Collectors have been authorised to take and resolve complaints from the people.
According to consumer activists, there is a need to create awareness among the people about their rights.
