Man From Aravalli Blows Himself Up Along With His Estranged Wife

| Updated: February 26, 2022 11:54

On Thursday, a man from Gujarat’s Aravalli district, who could not convince his separated wife to reunite with him, tied himself with an explosive device and triggered a blast while holding her for the last time.

The blast spread panic like a wildfire through the ranks of Aravalli Police, which initially had no idea about the intensity or target of the bomb nor the casualties.

Police later learned that the explosion had been set off by Lala Pagi, 45, to kill his wife, Sharda. Sharda left Pagi’s home 45 days ago. Since then, Pagi tried many reconciliatory gestures to bring her back but couldn’t succeed. So finally, Pagi decided to murder her after getting angry.

After leaving Pagi’s house, she stayed with her father in Meghraj town, about 135km from Ahmedabad. According to Sharda’s brother, Bhavan, Sharda was forced to move back to her father’s home due to Pagi and his family’s physical and mental harassment.

C P Vaghela, Inspector of the Isri police station, said that Sharda passed away instantly, and Pagi died shortly afterwards. However, their 21-year-old son survives them.

Sharda’s family said soon after Pagi reached her residence near the BT Chapra area in Meghraj at about 9 P.M., he hugged her, and the blast occurred.

Superintendent of police (SP) Sanjay Kharat and deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Bharat Basiya had also reached the crime scene.

Vaghela said that initial investigations revealed that Pagi had worn a shirt after tying two gelatin sticks to his stomach.

A case was registered against Pagi late on Thursday night at Isri police station under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder) and 286 (negligent conduct with respect to an explosive substance). Provisions of the Explosives Act and the Explosive Substances Act have also been invoked.
