| Updated: October 6, 2022 15:51

The Mumbai Police on Thursday detained a person from Bihar’s Darbhanga in a case related to threatening calls to Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family. The Mumbai Police detained the accused person from Bihar with the help of the Bihar Police at midnight. Threats were also issued in the names of some members of the Ambani family. A further probe into the matter is underway.

A threat call was received at HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on Wednesday, where the unknown caller threatened to blow up the hospital and issued death threats to the Ambani family.

A Reliance Industries Limited spokesperson said that “At 12.45 pm today and again at 5.04 pm, a call was received at the call centre of Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital threatening to blow up the hospital and threatening to take the lives of Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani, Akash Ambani, and Anant Ambani. The caller also threatened to blow up Antilia and made multiple threats to members of the Ambani family. “A police complaint has been registered and we are providing all the necessary details to the police in their investigations”.

The police had registered a case at the DB Marg Police Station, here in Mumbai.

The Mumbai police said that “a call was received on the landline number of Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital at 12.57 pm today from an unknown number in which the caller threatened to blow up the hospital and issued threats in the name of some members of the Ambani family”.

This is the second similar case in the last two months. On August 15, the Ambani family received similar threats from a man who was arrested in Dahisar and those calls were also made to the Reliance hospital. The caller was identified as a South Mumbai jeweller by the name of Vishnu Bhowmik.

Earlier, On January 24, 2021, a car was found outside the Ambani residence with a note threatening the family, along with 20 gelatin sticks. The car was discovered to be Manuskh Hiren’s, who was later discovered dead, and Mumbai cop Sachin Vaze was arrested for being a key conspirator in the entire plan.

However, the calls by the man from Bihar came days after Ambani’s security was upgraded to Z+ category, the second highest level of security offered by the Ministry of Home Affairs, consisting of five personnel and over 10 NSG commandos and police officers.
