Delay in Medical Admissions process in Surat

| Updated: November 28, 2021 17:47

The admission process of first year PG in medical colleges in Surat observed a delay due to increased work load on other year resident doctors because of the Covid pandemic.

The resident doctors of New Civil and Schmeier hospital have started agitation from next Monday and announced to boycott the operation of OPD.

Earlier, Surat Government Medical College had started the admission process for the first year PG in May and completed it by August. However, due to Covid-19, results were delayed after months and the emission process didn’t start even though it was four months late, as per the medical sources.

Demands have been made to the Dean of Schmeier’s Junior Doctors Association to increase the number of senior doctors in various departments to start the PG counseling cum admission process. All the doctors have threatened to stay away from OPD work from coming Monday if the demands are not accepted. However the emergency service will continue.

If the right decision is not taken, the movement might be intensified. Dr. President of New Civil Junior Doctor Assoc. Jignesh Gangadia said that since the admission process of PG has not been started, all OPDs will be closed from work on Monday and Tuesday from 9 am to 5 pm.
