A missing woman case in Gujarat took a shocking turn after police uncovered an alleged affair, marriage trafficking and confinement during their investigation. What initially appeared to be a routine missing person complaint later revealed a disturbing chain of events involving the woman’s husband and several others.
According to police, the woman’s husband had initially approached the police at Palanpur West police station on May 11, claiming that his wife had been missing for about 15 days and asking for help in finding her. Since the woman did not have her own mobile phone, police questioned the husband in detail, but they reportedly found his statements suspicious and unconvincing.
Because of inconsistencies in his version, police started a deeper investigation using surveillance and human intelligence. During the probe, officers discovered that the husband was allegedly involved in an affair and wanted to bring another woman home. Investigators said he reportedly told friends that his wife would neither leave him nor agree to a divorce.
Police later found that the accused had allegedly contacted a family in a village near Tharad and offered to sell the woman for marriage. According to investigators, a deal was reportedly fixed for ₹1.5 lakh, with ₹50,000 paid upfront and the rest to be paid later.
The woman was allegedly taken to Tharad, where she was confined in a house and repeatedly assaulted. Police said they rescued her about a week before the report was published and arrested a man identified as Manoj. His parents were also among those arrested.
Investigators said they collected evidence including CCTV footage, call records and recordings. They also counselled the woman before she formally lodged a complaint against the accused.
Further investigation reportedly revealed that the husband had trapped and eloped with two married women in the past, both of whom were later reported missing. Police also alleged that he stole the woman’s gold earrings worth around ₹15,000 and sold them in Deesa.
The investigation is still ongoing as police continue to examine the case and identify everyone involved.
