With mostly mild to moderate side effects, Moderna Inc’s Covid-19 Vaccine turned out successful in children and adolescents, shares the US Food and Drug Administration staff.
The data support the benefits of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine in preventing symptomatic Covid-19 symptoms from 6 months to 17 years of age. The report shall follow a two day meeting where experts shall decide whether the vaccine can be progressed to be used for the aforementioned age groups.
Moderna’s shot for adolescents has begun in Europe, Japan and Canada, it is yet to receive approval in the US as it faces issues over concerns regarding myocarditis. Myocarditis, a heart related complication, has been seen in a relatively smaller age group of men.
It is undecided whether Moderna’s shot will lead to a surge in the number of children getting their shots as till now only a few parents have got their kids vaccinated. Merely 28% of the kids aged 5 to 11 are fully vaccinated, said the data presented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last month.
The two day meeting is segregated into two parts- the first day being concerts regarding Moderna’s shot in school age kids, while the second being application for the younger kids, as well as BionTech’ and Pfizer’s application for children below the age of 5.
