Most fake Covid Death claims From Gujarat, Kerala, Andhra and Maharashtra

| Updated: March 21, 2022 16:54

Four states, Gujarat, Kerala, Andhra and Maharashtra, have submitted the highest amount of fake Covid-19 indemnification. This data was submitted in the Supreme Court by the central government on Monday.

Following the suspicious nature of documents received largely from these states, the health ministry is now focused on re-checking all tendered credentials on a priority basis. Adding further, solicitor general Tushar Mehta noted “anyone who is eligible as of right now should file within four weeks.”

However, the defendant court responded by saying that four weeks is too short: “If there is a death, the family would need time to recover from the sorrow and then file claims.”

All the same, the Apex body said it would not tolerate swift payments to be misused. “Our order should not be misused by anybody as it amounts to depriving the claim of a genuine person,” cautioned the judiciary.

Last year in June, the Supreme Court passed an order stating that families of those who died because of Covid-19 are eligible to receive Rs 50,000 as indemnification.
