In the NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu’s ancestral hamlet, the celebrations started early as the country awaited the results of the presidential elections. Even before the vote count started, folks in Uperbeda, Odisha, around 280 kilometres from the capital Bhubaneswar, were in a celebratory mood.
Murmu grew up in a remote tribal village in Odisha, a place overjoyed with Odisha’s daughter. They have also planned to celebrate her win by distributing ladoos and sweets in the village. According to the sources, around 20,000 ladoos are waiting to be distributed after Murmu’s victory.
Uperbeda is Murmu’s natal village, and it’s in the Mayurbhanj district, some 20 kilometres from Rairangpur. Moreover, her ancestral home is still here. Her nephew, Dularam Tudu, resides in the house that belonged to her father.
Many local organisations, including trade associations, bar associations, educational and religious institutions, and even government officials, are eager to honour the ‘daughter of the soil’ in the peaceful town of Rairangpur.
Furthermore, locals think Droupadi Murmu will soon hold the top constitutional position. Hence, hoarding applauding Murmu on her victory has already arisen.
When the results are announced, folk performers and tribal dancers will take to the streets having practised their performances. They are anxiously awaiting the inauguration of the nation’s first tribal woman President.
