The currently underway 80th Golden Globes kickstarted Hollywood’s award season with a ceremony in Los Angeles on early morning Jan 11 (IST) hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael.
RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli won Best Original Song for Natu Natu and is also competing for Best Non-English Language Film. RRR, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan as real-life freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitaramaraju, is the first Indian film to win a Golden Globe, among Hollywood’s most prestigious list. Director Rajamouli, Jr NTR and Ram Charan with wife Upasana Kamineni are attending the Golden Globes.
No one would have thought that when Natu Natu, a regional folk song from RRR was released, it had the potential to bag international laurels. But, Natu Natu did. RRR was nominated in two categories for prestigious Golden Globe Awards 2023: Best Original Song for Natu Natu and Best Motion Picture (non-English).
The Golden Globes Award is an honor that is awarded to a winner by 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) for films and television. The Oscars are an accolade that is given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for recognizing excellence in films.
Also, while the GG awards distinguished films and television productions, the Oscars focus entirely on motion pictures.
The award show is extraordinary for the Indian film industry this year as SS Rajamouli’s epic action drama RRR is in the running to collect top honours alongside Top Gun, Avatar sequel, The Fabelmans, and more.
RRR’s Natu Natu, created by MM Keeravani, Chandra Bose, Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, was pitted against the likes of Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and more.
