The Ramgarh Vishdhari sanctuary in Bundi, Rajasthan, which covers the tiger habitat between Ranthambore and Mukundra Hills, was recognised on Monday as the country’s 52nd tiger reserve and the state’s fourth, after Ranthambore, Sariska, and Mukundra.
On July 5 last year, the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) gave an in-principle approval to declare Ramgarh Vishdhari a tiger reserve.
“The new reserve will protect biodiversity while also attracting ecotourism and development to the area. It will aid in the dispersal of tigers from Ranthambore National Park,” tweeted Bhupender Yadav, Union environment minister.
The post added that the newly constituted tiger reserve contains tiger habitat between Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in the northeast and Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve in the south. It is expected to facilitate easy dispersal from Ranthambore Tiger Reserve.
This new tiger reserve’s floristic richness makes it a significant place for study and teaching. He stated that historic and cultural monuments like as Bhimlat and Ramgarh Palace would promote ecotourism and provide economic opportunities to local populations. The Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve is home to wild animals such as the Indian wolf, leopard, striped hyena, sloth bear, golden jackal, chinkara, nilgai, and fox.
