National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), formerly Gujarat Forensic Science University (GFSU), an international university in Gandhinagar is solely dedicated to forensic and investigative science. With cyber security and investigative sciences in high demand among airlines, software services, multinationals, pharma concerns and banks among others, the job placement rate at NFSU has surged to over 90% in the past three years. The premiere institute previously focussed only on crime investigation. However, in recent times it revised its scope to include 46 forensic sciences courses.

On conditions of anonymity, a proud faculty shared that an NFSU student was recently hired by a top airlines for an annual package of Rs 67 lakhs. “We respect the student’s privacy and would not like to share further details,” confirmed the NFSU office, without wanting to elaborate further.

With the world’s increasing reliance on computers on technology, the dark side has also thrived equally. “Hacking, trespassing and now extorting ransom using private data are common. In times to come, cyber security personnel would not only serve to protect an individual or company’s private assets’ data, but would be required by law-enforcing agencies to track points of data breach,” shared the teacher.

To become a Forensics Officer one needs to pursue BSc Forensic Science which is offered as a 3-year undergraduate program. The applicant is required to have completed the 10+2 board examination as a science student.

NFSU operates nine campuses in India and recently set up one in Uganda. Sharing further, placement officer and associate dean, Dr Digvijaysinh Rathod. He briefed that the institute has students from over 40 countries. “The demand for forensic experts has soared. In the present context, these professionals are needed in just about any field – crime investigation, forensic chemists, cyber security analysts, fingerprint analysts, DNA analysts and/or as threat hunters to counter cyberattacks,” he maintained.

Many NFSU students are known to draw a monthly package that touches the Rs 2 lakh range. However, the recent on campus recruitment has seen a sudden rise in the CTCs and in the jobs that are required for such roles.

Among the top names that figure in NFSU’s list of firms that hire on-campus are Adobe, Microsoft, Reliance, Tata Group, Adani and Bank of America.
